Relax: Bike Nerd

Bikenerd

As a consultant, I try to organize my life to provide flexibility to learn new skills and try out new hobbies while giving time to long-term passions.

This blog started, as many do, to keep the friends up to date while I was traveling. In this case, a long bike ride across Europe. There’s no place I’d rather be most days, than on my loaded touring bike on an adventure. Thus far, my longer trips include biking from Seattle to Banff/Calgary, Amsterdam to Budapest, Boston to Newfoundland and back, and San Diego to Yuma. Now that I’ve got a partner, we’re trying to squeeze in short trips that match vacation allotments, but even a weekend out is fun.

Adding better and more photos to the blog was a natural evolution that thankfully has been matched by the advances in digital photography..so while I’m no more than an amateur at it, I have enjoyed picking up the camera, buying a few lens and learning more about processing photos.

While it surprises many, considering I work “in the web”, I don’t have a strong background in coding or technology itself. I’m learning just enough to make the tweaks I need to my code, but have long gotten over the phobia of it. It’s fun. And if I had more time, I could see how a person could enjoy the puzzle of it. That said, given my limited time, you’d more likely find me on my fiddle.

Finally, while I think I could be quite happy living in a top-floor apartment with a balcony, we currently live in an old farmhouse in the center of Seattle with a large sunny yard. I’ve filled it with food and flowers and am exploring what it means to be more sustainable, more self-reliant, and how to increase food production not only in my yard, but within our entire community. Access to quality, local food and having the knowledge about it is a key ingredient to increasing social justice.
