Work: UX Consultant
When people ask what I do, I usually give shorthand like, I study how people use the Internetor I am working on making the Internet easier to use. I usually get to hear a story about a particularly painful web site, a fear about online money transactions, or a humorous search result.
Primarily a usability researcher, I conduct both individual usability testing and focus groups. I am a huge fan of doing “on-the-street” research and taking the research to where the end users are. Sometimes a formal lab with it’s two-way glass and M&Ms makes sense, but often I can save the client money and get quicker results with some creative testing tactics.
Over the last several years, the focus of my work has grown to include traditional user interface design including wireframes, site maps, and user task flows. I will often use these documents as the basis for user research. This saves money and time; and for companies without large teams and enables them to understand and implement a user-centric approach to development.
